Most Expensive Car in the World

The Maybach Exelero is probably the most expensive car in the world at the moment. The Exelero has a 700 hp twin turbo V12 engine and is described as the most powerful automobile ever made. The car reaches a top speed of 218 mph. Of course, the Exelero's ranking as the world's most expensive car has attracted many celebrities to make a purchase. Rap stars Jay-Z and Birdman both own Exeleros.

The 700-hp, two-seater with a V12 biturbo engine is a unique custom model.  The Exelero embodies the highest expression to date of the Maybach individualization strategy of offering specific custom solutions on request. In its initial high-speed track in Nardo, Italy, the unique vehicle reached a top speed of 351.45 km/h. Mere low price of $8 Million ($8,000,000.00)

What People Are Doing With Their High-End Cars In

Dubai Seems Completely Insane!

The United Arab Emirates is one of richest countries in the Middle East. Despite the recent financial crisis and the falling price of oil, the country's economy still remains strong. However, like any other modern country, the UAE has its fair share of problems. These problems range from the typical (poverty, high price of living) to the truly bizarre.

One of the UAE's bizarre problems, specifically in the city of Dubai, is the problem of high-end luxury cars being frequently abandoned in local airports' parking lots. Why would someone abandon a perfectly good luxury car? The reason makes more sense than you would think...

Dusty sports cars, long abandoned, clog up parking lots.

According to the BBC, a Ferrari Enzo worth more than $1 million was once abandoned in a Dubai airport parking lot.

The answer is actually relatively simple: Sharia law

The UAE, like many Arab countries in the Middle East, observes Sharia law. Under Sharia law, not paying your debts is a criminal offense

This means that all those fancy cars gathering dust in airport parking lots across the UAE were abandoned by owners who chose to escape the country instead of going to prison

Many people took out big loans for fancy cars when things were booming as a way to keep up with their peers. Things then took a turn, and many decided to fly the coop rather than face jail time

Both locals and foreigners are being blamed for abandoning their expensive cars.

When police discover an abandoned car, they issue a warning notice. If the owner fails to appear after 15 days, the car is impounded.

Most impounded vehicles are never claimed by their owners.

Police then auction off the cars, usually for pennies on the dollar.

Sadly, the trend of luxury cars being abandoned in Dubai shows no signs of slowing. On average, police in Dubai recover around 3,000 abandoned luxury cars every year

Steve Job's $120 Million Super Luxury Yacht

The 256-foot-long Venus was pictured off the coast of Norman Island in the British Virgin Islands on January 2

Apple founder Steve Jobs died a year before the vessel was completed in 2012 and it is now owned by his widow Laurene Powell Jobs.

Unfortunately, Jobs never got to board his €100million ship named Venus, since the tech genius died a year before it was completed in 2012.

Jobs commissioned the ship in 2008, a few years after his first cancer diagnosis. Several summers spent relaxing on friend and fellow businessman Larry Ellison's yacht convinced Jobs he wanted a boat of his own.

The Apple founder enlisted the expertise of designer Phillippe Starck to create his one-of-a-kind sailing paradise. Additionally, he hired the chief designer of the Apple Stores to make structural glass for the yacht.

Starck spoke about creating Venus in an interview with French Vanity Fair last year, revealing that the super yacht contains six bedrooms and a home automation system to communicate between the kids' living quarters in the front of the ship, and the adult quarters in the back - so there would be no need for yelling.

'Steve wanted to be sure that the teenagers could be set up in the front of the boat when he was at the back and vice-versa. He was obsessed with silence,' Starck said. 'In his home, children did not make noise, nor the dog, nor his wife … no one made any noise, ever.'

1937 Cadillac Hartman Cabriolot

This Cadillac is probably the most extreme cabriolet ever built. Wealthy playboy Phillipe Barraud personally commissioned this design through local Cadillac dealer in Lausanne, Switzerland on one of the finest chassis that America had on offer.

Phillipe chose the Cadillac V16 for its monstrous 452 cu engine and robust chassis that could support any coachwork that adorned it. Cadillac shipped a bare chassis, one of only two that year, around the world to Switzerland and there it was bodied in Lausanne by Willy Hartmann. Barraud wanted to body the chassis in his own home town so he could personally suprvise the work.

The final result was stunning. Stretching 22 feet in length Hartmann created a sweeping cabriolet that was almost too dubious to drive on regular roads. The design was accented in chrome and definitely mimicked the French masters Figoni et Falaschi which pioneered the trend from a painting by Geo Ham. It was orginally painted off-white with and orange body stripe and fender skirts.

Details included a new dashboard with center mounted gauges and a redeigned triangular Cadillac logo with the script ''Carrosserie Hartmann, Lausanne, Cadillac''.

After two year's war broke out and the Cadillac was stored for ten years. It was then brought back to life and Phillipe had it repainted white over pale blue to use it over the next ten years. It was again repainted light over dark brown after a crash which destoyed the front end and its lights. New bullet lights were fitted to replace the small dirivng lights that did little for the grace of the design. Additionally a full width bumper was constructed.

It was found in a field in 1968 and was sold for only $925 USD.

Thought to be a Figoni et Falaschi roadster, it traded hands several times and went through four restorations. The third of which was by Andre Lecoq of Paris who extensively modified it by fashioning a new panel to conseal the roof when folded down, a new interior, new bumpers and new chrome accents along the fender line. In 1990 it was sold at the Barrett-Jackson as a 'Figoni et Falaschi' auction for 1.4 million. By the time the Hartman V16 reached the Blackhawk Collection where it can currently seen at the museum, it was painted resale red and the original Willy Hartmann plaque on the dashboard was replaced with a fake Figoni et Falaschi unit. Most of the chrome, especially on sides were fabricated and a new recessed grill was fitted. While more elegant, the cabriolet has lost many of its original design traits.

2018 Rolls-Royce SUV

What It Is:

An artist's impression of what an SUV by Rolls-Royce could look like. By grafting styling cues from the Phantom and the Ghost upper-luxury sedans onto an SUV body, BMW's boutique brand aims to create an SUV that would make the Range Rover and the upcoming Bentley SUVappear tastefully modest. There will be no vehicle better suited to clear the road ahead of it.

As a sibling of the upcoming BMW X7, the Rolls-Royce SUV would share the Bimmer’s latest technology and assistance systems, but it would temper that modernity with traditional touches such as hand-finished wood and leather. We doubt the Rolls-Royce SUV will offer three-row seating; instead, two rear “business-class” seats—a three-passenger bench will likely be available, too—will offer maximum personal space and opulence.

Why It Matters:

Rolls-Royce executives have been incessantly hinting over the past year at an upcoming SUV, if only to cut through the buzz surrounding Bentley's upcoming SUV and the Lamborghini Urus (although we haven't heard much on that front for a long time). A Rolls-Royce SUV is still "under consideration" and being "studied," but execs already liken the discussion to the one that happened at BMW before the X5 and at Porsche before the Cayenne. And the move to offer SUVs hasn't hurt either of those premium brands, has it?

Rolls-Royce, of course, is a peculiar case: The brand is over-the-top ostentatious, but neither sporty nor utilitarian. So far, Rolls-Royce has stuck very closely to its traditional positioning. It doesn't even offer a credible sports car, and so it remains to be seen whether this SUV is a step too far, although as a brand-stretching exercise, it's not as quite as absurd as the ill-fated Aston Martin Cygnet. An SUV potentially could vastly increase the brand's market share: It will compete in a strongly growing segment, and it will open up the brand for a younger and more gender-diverse group of buyers.

Platform:

The Rolls-Royce SUV's closest relative will be the upcomingBMW X7, which shares its architecture with the next generations of the X5 and X6. Many of its components also will be common with the next BMW 7-series. Like the current Rolls-Royce models, the SUV will use aluminum and high-strength steel, and it could also benefit from BMW's expertise in carbon-fiber technology.

Powertrains:

The Rolls-Royce SUV could be powered by a number of twin-turbocharged engines from BMW's parts bin, including BMW's 4.4-liter V-8 or 6.0-liter V-12, or the Rolls-Royce Ghost's 6.6-liter V-12, which is itself derived from BMW's twelve-holer. We also expect to see a plug-in-hybrid variant. Diesels would be technically possible, but they are unlikely given their incompatibility with the brand's vaunted "waftability." However, it is certain that the Rolls-Royce SUV will come exclusively with all-wheel drive.

Competition:

Bentley SUV, Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG, Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged.

Estimated Arrival and Price: This über-SUV could come to market in 2018 or later at prices starting at $250,000 or so.

Paul Allen Is Taking His 'Tatoosh' Yacht Off The Market After Failing

To Sell It For $160 Million

Tatoosh," a 303-foot yacht belonging to Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, is no longer for sale after it failed to find a buyer in almost four years on the market, the Daily Mail reports.

Allen first listed "Tatoosh" with Fraser Yachts for $160 million back in 2010.

In addition to accommodations for 20 guests and 30 crew members, the superyacht also boasts a cinema, swimming pool, basketball court, recording studio, gym, and two helipads.

Allen has made an effort to draw interest to the yacht since it was first put up for sale in 2010. Shortly after it was listed, he let Paris and Nicky Hilton use it for a month-long vacation. Paris raved about it: "I'm in heaven on the water. Definitely the biggest and best yacht everywhere we go. Love it! Huge!"

The yacht was also by far the largest to travel to Sochi for the Winter Olympics last month.

Still, the publicity hasn't helped to get "Tatoosh" off Allen's hands.

"‘The yacht has not been sold, and furthermore is not for sale," Stuart Larsen of Fraser Yachts said to the Daily Mail.

Allen also owns another, much bigger yacht: the 414-foot "Octopus," which has played host to some wild New Years' parties and visits from recording artists like Mick Jagger and Damian Marley.

Ten Reasons To Buy A Luxury Car

Is buying a luxury car worth it during these economic downtimes? Yes, if you’re looking for a car that’s possibly safer, has the latest gadgets and, in some cases, is customizable. Here are 10 reasons why buying a luxury car can be worth the extra expense.

1. Safety

They aren’t always safer (lightweight, superfast convertibles, being the obvious exception), but luxury cars tend to offer more safety features than their non-deluxe counterparts, which translates into better crash-test results. According to Consumer Reports, 71% of 2009 vehicles with standard stability control, traction control, anti-lock braking systems, side-front airbags and curtain airbags cost at least $30,000. Forty-four percent of the vehicles chosen as top safety picks by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety have an estimated base price of more than $30,000.

2. Resale Value

Each year, Kelley Blue Book rates the cars with the best resale values for their class. For 2009, eight out of 15 segment winners came from a luxury brand or cost more than $30,000. Standouts include the distinctive and quick-selling Mini Cooper, which starts at $18,700 but is one of the most expensive options in the compact class and is made by luxury automaker BMW. Other winners were the high-performance $76,840 Nissan GT-R and $40,240 Cadillac CTS sedan.

3. Prestige

There’s no denying it. Heads turn when an Audi R8, Jaguar XF or Aston Martin DB9 rolls into view. They get parked in the best positions at valet lots and announce your arrival into polite society–or at least the local country club.

4. Coexistent beauty and comfort

In the annual quality study from J.D. Power and Associates, only two brands, Jaguar and Porsche, received perfect scores for design quality. Remote-start and cold-weather packages from the likes of BMW and Porsche include heated seats and ski bags to help owners hit the shops or the slopes in the most comfortable way possible.

5. Interior fit for a king

Or queen, as the case may be. From straight-grained East Indian rosewood trim in the Rolls-Royce Phantom tungsten to thick lambswool rugs in the Bentley Continental GT, luxury cars take opulence to the next level. Even if the silver champagne flutes in the $451,250 Maybach 62 S are out of your range, $1,200 will get you a semi-aniline leather-trimmed interior with African bubinga wood interior trim in the 2009 Lexus LX SUV.

6. State-of-the-art technology

Historically, luxury cars have offered the latest and greatest safety features (anti-lock brakes, review cameras) and entertainment technology (in-headrest TV screens, Bluetooth) before these options trickle down to the masses. In this year’s 2009 luxury models, you can get everything from remote starters, electronic parking aids and rain-sensing windshield wipers to a fully integrated iPod music interface.

7. Complete maintenance

Certified-pre-owned programs like the one at BMW offer comprehensive roadside assistance–and the assurance that only vehicles that meet BMW’s stringent standards and pass its certification process receive the certified pre-owned title. Brand-new BMWs are well looked-after even before they become CPOs, says Jim McDonnell, president of BMW North America, because the German company awards free maintenance and roadside assistance for the first four years of ownership.

8. Potential to add individual style

Bugatti invites buyers to its Dorlisheim, France, factory so they can customize exterior paint colors, interior dashboard trim and interior monograms. New-car buyers at Porsche meet with a personal consultant to determine how to customize the vehicle. The 911, for instance, offers custom-painted air intake grilles and specialized aluminum or leather gear levers to colored ceramic brakes and fine wood trims like Makassar and sycamore.

9. Horses under the hood

When it comes to sheer power, luxury cars come with plenty–without even having to upgrade the engine. Out of 353 2009 models evaluated by Consumer Reports, only six of them had at least 300 horsepower and cost under $30,000. Fifty-two had at least 300 horses under their belt and cost more than $30,000. Leading them are BMW’s M-line, with models that bring 400 to 500 horsepower.

10. Consistent quality

Results from J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Survey found that Infiniti, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Mercury, Porsche and Toyota are the brands with the highest overall quality for 2008. Four of those–Infiniti, Lexus, Mercedes and Porsche–are premium brands. In individual categories, Infiniti and Lexus are the only brands with perfect scores for powertrain mechanical quality. BMW, Lexus, Mercedes and Porsche are the only brands that received perfect scores for mechanical body and interior quality.

2007 Prevost Vantare Motorcoach

Iconic Yachts: Carinthia VI

In any list of significant post-Second World War motor yachts Carinthia V would rank near the top. She was the first major yacht designed by Jon Bannenberg and was also a breakthrough for the builder, Lürssen.

Before Bannenberg, yacht design did not really exist as a distinct occupation. Naval architects designed what they hoped were efficient and good-looking hulls and left the shipyard to complete the interior. Bannenberg made art his starting point, and sought to design every feature of a yacht from the exterior down to the doorknobs to achieve a completely consistent result.

However, this ambition lay in the future when Carinthia V was launched in 1971. The owner was the German supermarket magnate Helmut Horten, an experienced yachtsman who was interested in speed and power rather than luxury. The 42 metre Carinthia IV, for instance, built in 1965 from laminated mahogany by Chantiers Navals de l'’Esterel, was capable of 35 knots, but Horten wanted a much bigger fast yacht and went to Lürssen of Bremen, which at the time built mainly warships such as the 137 ft. Jaguar Class patrol boats, capable of 40 knots.

These were not planning hulls but slim, semi-displacement ones with high-powered diesel engines. It was no surprise, therefore, that the yacht Lürssen proposed was long and slim and looked rather like a fast warship. With a narrow beam, a lot of length was needed to provide enough accommodation space, and the overall length came to an impressive 232 ft.

Three V-20 turbocharged MTU diesels were placed well aft for optimal weight distribution, but when one was damaged all three were replaced with two high-powered MTUs with a top speed of just under 30 knots.

Bannenberg’'s contribution was to integrate the whole design so that the drama of the long, slim hull was emphasised to the maximum. The sheerline runs the full length of the hull without interruption, and bow and stern slope forward to give an impression of urgency. The front of the superstructure is drawn as a sweeping curve. All the design elements of Carinthia V are simple and strong, and distracting details are avoided. Satellite domes, for instance, are placed well aft on an arch rather than on top of the wheelhouse or on the mast. As soon as you look at Carinthia, it is obvious that one hand has been responsible for the whole vessel from overall concept down to the smallest detail.

Bannenberg was not given full responsibility for the interior because the owner’'s wife, Heidi, favoured using blond timbers and strongly coloured rugs to create the ‘Norwegian wood’ look that was popular at the time. Later, of course, Bannenberg would have as strong an influence on interiors as he had on the exterior of Carinthia, –indeed, his company was given the job of redesigning the interior when the yacht was eventually sold.

The story of Carinthia V  is strange: she hit an uncharted rock on her maiden cruise in the Mediterranean and sank, but instead of raising and repairing her, Horten ordered an identical replacement from Lürssen, Carinthia VI. Not quite identical, however,– the builders put in extra watertight bulkheads to prevent a recurrence of the sinking.

After keeping the yacht for many years, Horten ordered a larger and more luxurious vessel with the same general appearance, and the 318 Ft. Carinthia VII, designed by Tim Heywood, was launched in 2002. Unfortunately Horten died before this yacht was completed but his wife took delivery and, after a lot of soul-searching, sold Carinthia VI.

The yacht has been renamed The One and overhauled and now has a striking interior; the exterior has a few additions and remains as dramatic and exciting as ever.
